AWOL and Air Conditioners

This is what fall looks like in my neck of the woods and I will be exceedingly glad when the view from my porch once again looks like this instead of the searing heat we are currently experiencing. I do not remember a summer quite this miserable for heat. I do believe there was one in the '90's that was perhaps equal to it, but memory diminishes pain so can't be relied upon to be accurate.
When the weather is this appalling, I tend to hunker down and wait it out in silence; with as little  movement as possible, thus, I have been AWOL for some time. Apologies. No excuse.
I have also been fighting a losing battle to keep my aged air conditioner on life support. It is 25 years old and has fought the good fight, but it is now time to face is on its last crippled legs. This insufferable summer has killed it.
So, I have a call in to my faithful Wilkerson & Sons Heating and Air Conditioning people to come and give me an estimate on a new unit. This is not the most agreeable time to have to be purchasing a new central air unit, as the State government for whom I work has decided in their infinite wisdom to furlough the entire workforce for six days. Oh well, better than being laid off I suppose.
But! It is September! Can October's Bright Blue weather be far behind. And could be worse, I could live in the Carolina's. Not a happy time for those dear isles at the present...I'm just sayin'...

  1. Have you tried roundhouse kicking it? Sometimes these modern appliances need a little encouragement.

  2. Bless it's heart, it has served me too well to think about kicking it. Perhaps if I had taken better care of it, it wouldn't have gotten in the shape its in. Repair man just left; it is running again and I am getting an estimate in the mail for the cost of replacement.

  3. I go AWL from time to time Ann as well. No worries. I love the fall look and sorry to hear of the heat. I m starting to love the heat . Never did before. Must come with age . . did I say age. lol.
    Have a great day

  4. Ann we've had a hot summer as well though I'm sure not as hot as yours. There is a hurricane coming but where I am at this point where I am we are under a tropical storm alert. Cape Cod and the islands will be hit much worse. My air conditioner is from the mid 80's and still going strong. Good luck on the estimate. Bring on the fall! Oh wait winter is next.

  5. It's as pretty here too when the leaves turn. Weather man said that this is the hottest summer ever in TN. He also said that we had 60 some days of temps 90 or more. We broke the 1933 record for heat. It was brutal this year and I spent more time in than out. Just too miserably humid and hot to stay put any more than I had to.

My son is a teacher in NC and they knocked 300 a month off his pay (and the other teacher too)

  6. Well I am freezing and have had the stove going for 2 days now. We had frost already. I too love the heat. Can take easily up to 100 as long as there isn't a lot of humity. Add the humidity and I become a rag doll on the couch. We had the coolest summer in a long time. I want more heat again. Glad you are cooling off again. Hugs Carrie

  7. Happy Birthday, sweet friend. Many more to you.
